This cd design was requested for "Blood of Heroes".

I started by gathering a compilation of references that seemed acoustically ambient relevant.

Wasn't sure if I would end up scraping my old notebooks for strange drawings- Then I found some sources of electron microscopy that seemed to flow with the sound- and put together a compilation of drafts for a final design:

I'd never seen a cd cover like this one- so- I made it. With a cd, acrylic paint, a hammer- complaints from the neighbors.

This is a cd design I made for SOJA (Soldiers of Jah Army). The album was released September 26, 2003.

The way I made this was to first make a painting on a piece of wood board. The painting ground (wood, in this case) was first covered in gesso (acrylic would do, regular gesso from a store tends to be acrylic with a higher pigment (chalk) to medium (acrylic) ratio ) as to seal it. Then a texturing mixture was created by warming floor wax (for floor.. err.. waxing.. ) , paraffin, polyurethane, cigarette ashes, insect parts, and poured on, thickly (Don't try mixing this at home, you'll blow yourself up, and poison all living things around you- you have been warned.) and set out to dry overnight in winter weather under freezing temperature. The result is an interesting "craquelture" (not in dict)- over which oil paint can do interesting things. The painting was run by a flatbed scanner- altered in photoshop (this is before my unixy time)- this is the base of the art.

I did the layout, css, graphic design etc.. Basically everything but the content.

I actually created a custom content manager for these guys also. To allow them to update their news, add new boats with pictures, etc. It was pretty nifty.
