Finally, I disagree with Richard Stallman

I’m a little heart broken that Richard Stallman thinks ‘cloud computing’ is a bad thing.
He says it’s bad for privacy issues, etc.
That you leave your data in the hands of the software developers.

I’m going to have to side with Paul Graham on this one. Hand down.

What’s all this about anyway?

SERVER/CLIENT VS WORKSTATION MODEL

Server based software is .. Say.. A website. You go to http://www.whatever.net and you see stuff. You can enter stuff into forms, click on links, bla.
Yahoo email, gmail, google search.. This is all server/client based software. You don’t have to install anything on your computer to be able to search on google- or to use gmail.

Workstation software is microsoft word. It’s sim city. It’s stuff you install on your machine.
Your web browser is workstation software.

All the websites themselves are ‘cloud computing’. E-Trade, Ebay, are cloud computing. You don’t install software to use Ebay.
