how to help people with flooding in the southeast
Recently there was flooding in the Southeastern United States. I wanted to know about what we from afar can do to help.
I found someone to ask..
Dear Rev. McKenzie,
I’m a concerned fellow human concerned about what is going on in the south with the flooding- I am not local, I live in Maryland.
I read at this website:
http://www.pcusa.org/pda/response/usa/ga-flooding092309.htmThat your church will be distributing aid to the surrounding areas hit by the recent flooding.
Where should financial aid be sent to that would most directly and quickly get into the hands of the people who need it?
Your church? Some other local organization as well?I also would like to know if it could be of use to bring food and clothing from out of the state, even if small quantities.
You must be busy- if you have any time it would be of great use to answer some of these questions and post them on your website http://www.wpcrome.com/
Thank you for your work.
I got a reply, and it answers some questions;

Good evening, Leo.
Thanks for your interest in addressing the suffering in GA at this time. By way of giving to the most direct source of response, I suggest a donation to the Synod of South Atlantic Disaster Response Fund. The address is 118 East Monroe Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202. All funds are distributed on a 100% basis to the affected areas. No administrative fees are charged against this budget line item and there is no “red tape” for disbursements to those in need.
As for food donations, these are discouraged at this time. It is preferred that monetary donations be made so that the local economies can recover as quickly as possible.
Again, thanks for your compassion and I hope that this helps.

Ok.. of course that is not going to be enough information.. I wrote to the “Synod of South Atlantic Presbyterian Church” asking for who to make out checks to etc- and if they have an online way of accepting funds. Offered to help set that up for them. Let’s see if I get a reply…
Regardless I’ll send a check out there.
